The Town of Olds is currently involved in a Municipal Sustainability Pilot Project. The Aquatic Center is conveniently located on the Olds College campus. It features five lanes, waterslide, and hot tub. Visit with our Town Crier and Bell Ringer, Denis and Judy Patry, during Olds Fashioned Christmas.     The Canadian Diabetes Clothesline Program collects reusable clothing and small household items. The items are sold to Value Village with all revenue benefiting various programs within the CDA, including research, educational material and children’s camps. Door-to-door pickups are conducted in Olds approximately every 8 weeks. There are also Clothing Donation Bins that are serviced weekly at the Olds Co-op (5330 46 St) and the 49 Ave Recycle Depot.

    On average, every Albertan recycles 430 beverage containers each year. Based on our population, Olds should recycle around 3.1 million containers. In 2006, Olds residents recycled 6,660,016 containers – more than TWICE the provincial average! The Municipal Recycling Programs in all of the municipalities in Mountain View County diverted 4763 tonnes of waste from landfills in 2007, and in 2008 we diverted 6880 tonnes of waste. This dramatic increase was achieved through various recycling initiatives including cardboard and newspaper recycling, waxed carton recycling, metal, plastics, wood recycling, and construction and demolition materials.

    Consumer Information and Investigation
    The Alberta Government Services Consumer Information Centre provides information to consumers and businesses about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace. It also provides information and advice about dealing with consumer complaints. Subject areas include landlord and tenant issues, collection practices, energy marketers, door-to-door sales, credit reporting, time shares, auctions, advance fee loan brokers, home improvement contracting, negative option sales, cemeteries, unfair market practices, charitable fund-raising and unlicensed businesses.     Service Alberta regulates the registration of all vital events that occur in Alberta such as births, deaths, marriages, and legal changes of name. Vital Statistics also provides statistical information to governments and approved health related agencies for comparison and research. In addition, the Vital Statistics office is responsible for the registration of religious organizations and clergy who perform marriages, marriage commissioner appointments and providing burial permits. The office also processes delayed registration events and amendments to event records. Most Vital Statistics' services are provided through the registry agent network, including the issuance of marriage licenses and applications for birth, marriage and death certificates.
