The Town of Olds is currently involved in a Municipal Sustainability Pilot Project. The Aquatic Center is conveniently located on the Olds College campus. It features five lanes, waterslide, and hot tub. Visit with our Town Crier and Bell Ringer, Denis and Judy Patry, during Olds Fashioned Christmas. Olds is a vibrant and thriving place with exciting business opportunities, including Industrial Parks. Welcome to Olds, National Winner in the 2005 Communities in Bloom competition.

This service facilitates and co-ordinates the entry of people into DTHR Residential Continuing Care services.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a volunteer, non-profit organization designed to assist elderly or disabled people to remain in their homes as long as possible, while maintaining proper nutrition. The drivers not only deliver food but also provide the client with an outside contact for five days a week. Meals on Wheels is also designed to assist persons on discharge from the hospital during a convalescent period. Meals are prepared at the hospital so special diets can be accommodated. Meals are delivered by volunteers Monday to Friday at 4.30 pm. Clients are charged a price set by the hospital, and meal tickets are sold at the beginning of the month. Volunteer drivers are always welcome!

Mountain View Seniors Housing is a non-profit registered charitable organization providing assistance to seniors through lodges and self-contained apartments in Mountain View County. MVSH also operates several community housing units throughout the county for low-income families who require subsidized housing assistance (see “Subsidized Family Housing” under the Children & Family section of this Directory).

The Evergreens are a senior citizens group (50 years and older) who meet during the week for activities such as card games, bingo, square dancing, carpet bowling, pool, shuffleboard, walking, 50+ exercises and day bus trips. Lifeline is an emergency response system that helps elderly or disabled persons maintain their independence by providing a home call system that is monitored 24 hours a day. The subscriber has a Lifeline Communicator at home with a personal HELP button that can be worn on clothing or carried around the home in a pocket.

Owned and operated by the Town of Olds, this wheelchair-accessible bus service provides transportation around town for seniors (50+) and disabled persons of any age. The bus runs from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
To book a ride, call 556-8003 between 9.00 am and 11.00 am Monday to Friday. Tickets are available from the bus driver or at the Town of Olds office. A service fee is charged per ride.

Council members consult with seniors, seniors organizations, and others to gather information and provide advice to the Minister of Seniors and Community Supports regarding seniors needs.
  • The Council provides advice to the government, through the Minister of Seniors & Community Supports, on legislation and policies affecting seniors on funding and the coordination of programs and services relating to them.
  • Council spearheads the annual provincial Seniors' Week.

    Every 4th Tuesday of the month, seniors are invited to meet for a smorgasbord lunch that also includes a hymn-sing, musicians, door prizes, and a business speaker. The cost is $7.00 per luncheon. Please call 556.3219 to register.

    Retirement Pension – a monthly benefit for persons who have contributed to the Canada Pension Plan and who have ceased or reduced work.
    Disability Benefit – a monthly benefit payable to eligible contributors who can no longer work due to severe and prolonged disability.
    Death Benefit – a one-time, lump-sum payment paid to the surviving spouse or common-law partner of a deceased contributor.
    Survivor Benefit – a monthly benefit paid to the surviving spouse or common-law partner of a deceased contributor.
    Child’s Benefit – a monthly benefit paid to the natural or adopted child of a deceased or disabled contributor. Child must be a dependent under the age of 18 or, if between the ages of 18 and 25, in full time attendance at a recognized school or university.
    Old Age Security Pension – a monthly benefit payable to a Canadian Citizen or legal Resident who is 65 years or older.
    Guaranteed Income Supplement – a monthly benefit paid in addition to the Old Age Security Pension to a pensioner who has limited or no income.
    Allowance – a monthly benefit payable to the spouse or partner of a pensioner who is receiving the Old Age Security Pension. Spouse or partner must be between the ages of 60 and 64 and have income at or below the qualifying level.
    Allowance for the Survivor – a monthly benefit payable to a Survivor. A Survivor is a person whose spouse or common-law partner has died and since the death, has not become the spouse or common-law partner of someone else.
