Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a volunteer, non-profit organization designed to assist elderly or disabled people to remain in their homes as long as possible, while maintaining proper nutrition. The drivers not only deliver food but also provide the client with an outside contact for five days a week. Meals on Wheels is also designed to assist persons on discharge from the hospital during a convalescent period. Meals are prepared at the hospital so special diets can be accommodated. Meals are delivered by volunteers Monday to Friday at 4.30 pm. Clients are charged a price set by the hospital, and meal tickets are sold at the beginning of the month. Volunteer drivers are always welcome!

- Family Literacy Programs Our programs, offered throughout the communities in Mountain View County, support parents through sharing skills, tools and resources to enhance literacy development within the family. Programs include Books for Babies, Rhyme Time and Building Baby’s Brain.- Adult Literacy Programs We offer one-on-one tutoring for adults who would like to improve their reading, writing or math skills. We also teach English as a Second Language. We offer training for all volunteer tutors.

The Mountain View Film Group is a non-profit organization and a member of the Toronto Film Group. The Film Group shows movies once a month that may not be part of the regular circult in Olds. Any profits from showings are used to support local initiatives. The Film Group is associated with the fundraising committee of the Olds Historical Society. Historical Society members receive discounts on tickets. Any member of the public is welcome to attend Film Group meetings and help select movies to be shown. Olds has had a newspaper for more than 100 years with the Leatherdale family owning it for more than 50 years. The Mountain View Gazette was established in 2005 by Great West Publishing, a combination of the former Mountain View County News and Olds Gazette. It is a free distribution newspaper with a circulation of 20,000 serving Mountain View County, and extending into the counties of Red Deer, Clearwater, Kneehill and the M.D. of Rockyview. Other newspapers published by Mountain View Publishing include the Carstairs Courier, Didsbury Review, Innisfail Province, Olds Albertan, and the Sundre Round Up. The purpose of the association is to supply facilities for all types of target shooting, to ensure safe handling of firearms and to encourage sport shooting. Mountain View Summer Games Legacy Foundation

The Foundation serves to distribute interest earned from the 1983 Alberta Summer Games Legacy. Grants are offered primarily to: Athletes or artists who require assistance toward elite performance where coaching, instruction or training beyond what is available in the community is needed. Emphasis is on the attainment of a level of performance or skill well beyond the usual recreational or development levels. Students pursuing a course of study in a field related to sport, recreation or culture. Bursaries are dispersed in June. Coaches or instructors who are residents in Mountain View County and who have volunteered their time and expertise toward the benefits of others. These grants are to assist the leader to develop knowledge and skill. Sport and cultural organizations that are involved in exceptional and innovative programs. The Foundation directors meet in September each year to consider applications. Application forms are available at Town Offices in Mountain View County, from the County Office, at Olds College, or from any Director. Applications may be submitted at any time.
